The Vineyard Theatre has announced two of its main stage productions for the 2014-15 season. The winter of 2015 will see the world premiere of the musical Brooklynite, with a book by Tony winner Michael Mayer (Hedwig, Spring Awakening) and Peter Lerman and music and lyrics by Lerman. The season will also include the world premiere of Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' Gloria; Or Ambition.
Directed by Mayer, Brooklynite tells the story of Trey Swieskowski, an idealistic hardware store clerk who dreams of becoming a superhero and Astrolass, Brooklyn’s most celebrated superhero who is determined to throw in the cape for a normal life. The two meet, and hatch a plan that will change their lives forever. The musical, which will feature choreography by Steven Hoggett, is inspired by the real Brooklyn Superhero Supply Company in Park Slope.
Gloria; Or Ambition will be helmed by Evan Cabnet in the spring of 2015. The new play follows an ambitious group of editorial assistants at a famed Manhattan magazine, each of whom hopes for a book deal before they turn 30. When an unexpected event shatters life as they've known it, the stakes for who will get to tell their story becomes higher than ever.
The Vineyard Theatre will announce an additional main stage production and development work shortly.
